The Christmas season is officially here! And you know what that means – it’s time to bring out those festive decorations, make fun holiday crafts, and find the perfect gift for that special someone.

If you are looking for Christmas activities to do in Edson this year, you have come to the right place! Read on for a list of Edson and area’s top 7 Christmas activities. Whether you have a family or are celebrating on your own this year, there are plenty of activities to get everyone in the holiday spirit!

1. Shop at a Local Christmas Market

Support Edson and area’s artists by shopping at a local Christmas market this year!

The Edson area is known for its talent in the arts, so you can expect to find everything from handmade jewelry to festive décor at one of the many local markets. You may even stumble upon that perfect Christmas gift, which you will not be able to find anywhere else!

On November 26, the Galloway Station Museum will be hosting a Christmas Artisan Market from 12-5 pm. We are excited to showcase the works of our incredible artists and to formally unveil our Christmas decorations this year!

You can also hit Pinedale Hall’s Christmas Bazaar on the same day from 10 am to 2 pm. The Hall is located on Township Rd 534 in Yellowhead County, less than 20 minutes east of town.

From December 6-10th, Carrot Creek Hall will be hosting a Christmas market from 10 am to 5 pm featuring décor, gifts, baking and more. Ladies are invited to come out to the hall on the Thursday for ladies night, where drinks will be available for purchase.

Support Edson’s seniors by attending Parkland Lodge Auxiliary’s Christmas Tea, Bake Sale and Silent Auction on December 10th starting at 1:30 pm. All money raised from the event goes toward making the lives of seniors living at Parkland Lodge a ‘little brighter’!

On December 11, Pine Grove Hall will also be hosting a Christmas Social featuring a delicious silent baking auction.

2. Snap a photo with Santa

Photos are a great way to memorialize any event, especially Christmas!

Fortunately, Santa is coming down from the north pole to visit Edson this December for some family photo opportunities!

On December 3, the Galloway Station Museum will be hosting Santa at the Galloway, where families will have the opportunity to have a professional photo of their family taken in front of our lovely Christmas backdrop. The photos can be downloaded following the event for free, or can be printed professionally with a charge. But it will not just be photos, we will also have a fun and festive craft available as well as candy bags for all the kids who make it onto the ‘nice’ list.

The Edson Animal Rescue Society is also hosting a pet photo with Santa fundraiser at Bannister GM on December 3. Meet adoptable kittens, have a free cookie and support a great organization!

3. Skate with Santa

Strap on those skates because Santa Claus is coming to the Edson & District Leisure Centre on December 18th for a skate! Families are invited to attend the event for a fun afternoon of free skating and refreshments. There will also be ice carvers in attendance who will wow you with their intricacy and skill.

4. Watch the parade

Each year, local businesses and organizations go all out to decorate their floats for the annual Santa parade. We are expecting that this year will be no different!

Edson’s popular Christmas parade travels across town, starting from the Parkland Composite High School parking lot and ending on 6th Ave. Be sure to bring a spare bag to pick up all the candy thrown your way!

5. Make a Christmas gift

Who says you have to buy a Christmas gift for everyone on your list? Why not make one yourself?

Ladies are invited for a night out on December 9 to build a gnome (or two!) and to enjoy some wintery snacks.

Stop by Refillery 72 on December 1 to create your own botanical bath salts and scrubs courtesy of Mountain View Naturals. Give them away as gifts or keep them to pamper yourself!

On December 3, the Edson Public Library will be hosting their annual Tree Trimming Party from 1-4 pm, complete with snacks and hot cocoa. Make an ornament to take home or help them decorate their Christmas tree!

6. Support businesses by shopping local

This year, businesses on Main Street have joined forces for the Shop Local: Passport to Christmas initiative. By shopping local this holiday season, you will have a chance to win one of forty $25 gift certificates, and your name will be entered into a draw for a grand prize valued over $1000.

So how do you participate? Simply visit one of the participating business to pick up your passport. Every $10 that is spent will earn you a stamp. Once you have spent a total of $200, your card will be filled and all you have to do is drop it off at one of the participating businesses for the chance to win!

7. Enjoy some time away from the kids

December 2 is a non-school Friday, which may have you scrambling to find an activity to keep your kids busy. You are in luck because the Town of Edson, Edson Tumblers Gymnastic Club, New Elevation Yoga and the Edson Dance Academy have planned a fun day filled with activities and crafts for PD Day! Students will participate in a variety of gymnastic and aerial yoga activities and will create several crafts that can be used as Christmas gifts.

How will you spend Christmas in Edson this year?
